Ancient collection

The library holds about 30000 ancient editions and among them there are even five incunabula and 720 editions of the XVI century. This collection represents a great treasure for the city of Empoli, therefore the library has strongly committed itself to protecting and setting off these editions, in collaboration with Tuscany regional administration.

Practical information to look up ancient document

The person in charge for the Ancient Collection is dott. Carlo Ghilli (tel: 0571 757841, email: c.ghilli@comune.empoli.fi.it).
The ancient documents could be looked up only by appointment.
The library supplies readers with free latex gloves which must be worn while looking up the documents in order to protect them.
The library staff will keep close watch on the readers.
The documents can not be photocopied but in some cases the library staff can do digital photos, whose fees are decided yearly by the Town Council of Empoli.
